Disney on Ice Celebrations- More Disney than you can Shake a Magical Stick at!

Friday, November 20, 2009

This past Wednesday, I had the pleasure of taking my family to the newest Feld Entertainment Disney on Ice Show, "Celebrations" at the Prudential Center in Newark ( our favorite place to see shows). I don't know, maybe because of the slumping economy, maybe because of the diverse and sometimes depressing political drama we are facing as a nation today... I found this Ice Show more uplifting and cheerful than usual. More importantly, my kids were riveted with permanent smiles glued to their faces, for every, single, captivating second of this ice show. First observation - no Disney character is left unturned, unfolded, or unappreciated. They cover them all, in a quick paced, catchy, and visually pleasing cascade, that has good flow, good music, and jaw dropping costumes. It doesn't matter which Disney Character is your favorite, they are probably represented somewhere in the extravaganza. I found myself saying to my 6 year old daughter "Look! There's Jessie! There's Woody! Look there's Lilo and Stitch over there... ok... now its Princess Tiana....I think she's the new one.." and then I realized that I was in fact the adult, and I was as excited as a child seeing Disney characters for the first time. It didn't hurt; the fact we had great seats. There are LOTS of great seats available for the shows, because they have so many of them for so many nights. So no matter where you sit, you get a great view.

What ages would I recommend this show for? Ages 1 up until old age. If you are a Disney fan, especially if you follow all the Disney Princesses, Pixar Movies, or old school characters like Captain Hook, Pinocchio, and Alice in Wonderland, go see it. The show is a smattering of holiday celebrations, world cultures, traditions, good vs. evil, whimsy, magic brooms, and true love between princes and princesses. All these elements are showcased by great choreography and breathtaking jumps and flips. I loved how they traveled through the Holidays, even Halloween. During the Halloween sequence, all the "villains" from the movies came out of a magical stone gate and put on a great show, with out being scary for the little ones. Then, it seamlessly transitioned into another holiday sequence, with all new music and costumes. At times it was moving all way to fast to take it all in. They really wanted to pack as much as they could, visually, into the time they had, so if you blinked, you missed an element of the show. There is simply too much eye candy being blasted at you at one time to take it all in. I suggest taking a lot of pictures, and then going over the pictures with your family when you get home at a leisurely pace, to remember your magical night!

Nothing captivates young children like the magic of Disney on Ice. I remember going to Disney ice shows as a child, and being so enthralled I begged my mother for ice skating lessons. I then skated for 10 years! ( That's ten years of sore feet, wet posteriors, and frozen fingers!) Ahhh the memories. So what have I got to give away this time? Well, I am sooooo excited about this one! Can you guess? Well it's one colossal party on ice, with all your favorite Disney friends!
